Medical Secretary/Receptionist- 37 Hours per week

We are seeking a caring, highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Modbury Health Centre support team.


You will enjoy working within a fast paced GP Practice environment and will have worked in a GP Practice within the last 2 years. Our health centre is 12 miles from Plymouth and 8 miles from Kingsbridge.

The successful applicant will be able to work under pressure, use the relevant IT systems and be able to work to deadlines to meet targets. They will be expected to work professionally to a very high standard. Attention to detail and use of initiative is essential along with experience of audio typing and knowledge of medical terminology.

The ideal candidate must have a flexible ‘can do’ attitude with effective communication/interpersonal skills, a passion for excellence and an ability to work well within a team.

This is an interesting and challenging role and the post holder will need to have excellent proven reception and secretarial skills to ensure that high quality services are being delivered.

Community Midwives

Community midwives are attached to the practice. They will share your maternity care with the doctor and will arrange relaxation classes and visits for mothers at home during pregnancy and confinement.

Community Nurses

District nurses  are attached to the Health Centre and can give nursing care to patients confined to their homes. Arrangements can be made through the Health Centre. Please call the health centre  (01548) 830666.

Health Visiting

Health Visitors play a crucial role in giving newborn children the best start in life, and support their families in being able to deliver this.

We help families during those early years of a child’s life, which can have a profound impact on the lifelong health and wellbeing of young children and their families.

We also lead on the delivery of the early years elements of the Healthy Child Programme in partnership with other multidisciplinary services.

This may include:

We can support you with any concerns in regard to your child’s behaviour and development. To do this we offer phone support and face to face contact in settings in the community or in your home.

We provide child and family health services through delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. This includes:

  • an antenatal contact after 28 weeks for the parent(s) to be.
  • a new birth visit to the Parent(s)/Carer(s) and new baby by 14 days postnatal
  • a review at 6-8 weeks
  • developmental reviews by 1 year and 2 and a half years of age

All points of contact will allow for a review of any family health concerns and work with you to plan how additional support can be accessed if required

A COMMUNITY PHYSIOTHERAPIST Our community physiotherapist, Theresa Gaunt, is attached to the practice and operates clinics by appointment only. Arrangements are made direct by the physiotherapist. CHIROPODY A chiropodist attends on a regular basis for senior citizens, children, patients with diabetes and certain other conditions. COUNSELLOR A counsellor is contracted to the health centre offering appointments to patients.
