Repeat Prescriptions

You can use the NHS App to order your repeat prescription - sign up now!

Should you require a prescription without seeing the doctor, we provide a repeat prescription service. A repeat prescription slip will have a list of medicines and will show which medicines can be supplied without seeing the doctor. The medicine needed should be indicated on the slip and either ordered online, handed in to the dispenser or posted through the letter box if out of hours or by Royal Mail .

The repeat prescription slip also has a section to indicate where you would like to collect your medicine from - either the Health Centre, the local chemist, or other.

Online Prescriptions

To ensure total patient confidentiality and data security we have to ask you to come into the surgery to confirm your identity and give you your login details and then this will allow you to access your repeat prescriptions

When you order via this way you will be able to see your repeats list and your request for the items will then be added straight away to your clinical notes. This way will ensure total accuracy when issuing your requested repeat prescription.

Please ask reception or dispensary if you would like to have online access to your repeat prescription ordering

Dispensary

We are a dispensing practice and are able to dispense for patients who live more than a mile from their nearest chemist. We can also dispense to patients who live closer than this but who have difficulty in getting to a chemist.

Carol Watts , Jill Caddy and Harriet Rayner are our qualified in-house dispensers.

Please allow 72 hours/3 working days notice for all medication. This allows our dispensers  time to order supplies and have them ready for your collection.

When requesting medication outside normal dispensing hours, please ask when making your request and arrangements can be made.

Prescriptions for dispensing patients, written by doctors during surgery, will be dispensed immediately if available. Deliveries are available to some outlying areas.

We also offer a monthly delivery service to a number of locations -please enquire at the dispensary.

We are closed Saturday and Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Hospital Requests

When you are discharged from hospital you should normally receive 7 days’ supply of medication.

On receipt of your medication requirements, which will be issued to you by the hospital, please bring this to the surgery or post via a stamped addressed envelope before your supply of medication has run out.

Hospital requests for change of medication will be checked by the GP first, and if necessary your doctor will issue you with a prescription. The Practice will endeavour to issue you with your prescription on that day, but it cannot be issued until your medical details are checked by the doctor, your prescription should normally be ready by 4pm on that day, or you may be advised to attend the next day.

The doctors will review your medication, regularly, which may involve changes to your tablets, in accordance with current health board policies. Please be reassured that this will not affect your treatment.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
